Students will investigate different types of microorganisms and understand how the chain of infection is used to reduce the risk of infection or illness. The practice of Standard Precaution techniques and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in preventing and controlling the spread of disease will be emphasized. Students can acquire certification in OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) through an on-line agency. 3.1 Describe the need for asepsis and infection prevention 3.2 Observe Standard Precautions while working in the laboratory 3.3 Building on previous OSHA knowledge, apply personal safety techniques according to the contemporary protocol of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 3.4 Identify the different types of microorganisms and how the different components of the chain of infection must be connected in order to transmit disease 3.5 Don and remove PPE garments 3.6 Perform proper handwashing techniques Module includes lessons, quiz, test, keys, and medical terminology. 30 pages total!
